I really like this gate number one because I didn't have to drill holes in my door frame. I also like that you don't have to climb over it because it has a gate that you can open, leave open or close. The installation took me some time, but once I understood everything, I got up as described in the instructions. Some parts fit together perfectly and when you use additional panels there are parts that you end up not using. I'm not sure if it was just me, but somehow I found that a bit confusing. However, everything worked out and the gate is strong and reliable. I had to use extension panels on both sides for my door. My opening is 36" and this gate works up to 37". One thing that may seem wrong to you like me is that when you take the gate out of the box, the top hole is misaligned. All the Way. The reason for this is that the frame is built to give you a really tight fit. Once you tighten the top hardware, it closes the gap, giving you a gate that won't fall off if you push it a little. The parts that rest against your wall consist of a round metal disc with a long screw. an end to make adjustments. The metal disk is covered in a thick rubber plastic that has just enough grip but is thick enough to protect your wall. I think they designed the hardware so the surface was wide enough not to damage the wall. To open you have to lift a little and then open. This can be done with one hand once you get the hang of it. I love that the door can stay open and swing left or right without changing the hardware. When you open it, it just stays open. There has to be some weight or some kind of spring for it to stay that way. While it's very convenient for us because we use it for our dog, so the door stays open for the most part, but when I want to close it, it's easy to close. The door closes by itself simply by pulling it shut. You just have to be careful not to hit the ground with your foot as you walk through. This gate is a little higher than most which makes it better than some of the over climb gates in my opinion. It's just under 30 inches, which is a good height to be able to reach the latch. I was a little worried about scratching the floor with the metal on the bottom, so I attached some felt pads along the bottom. I think it's better to have them flush with the floor so the felt pads just make sure I don't mess up my hardwood floors if the gate moves a little. This is a really well made gate, it's secure but won't damage your wall. I'm a pretty picky customer but I can wholeheartedly recommend this. Thank you for reading my review, Becky Brooks
