Love the ability to change the amperage

I bought this model (NEMA 14-50 32A model) precisely because it stated a voltage range of 100-240V in the description in the fine print and demonstrated the ability to change the amperage between 10, 12, 16, 24 or 32A. I wasn't sure if that was true because the article title only said 200-240V. It actually requires 120V. I had to make an adapter to connect it to my 110V (NEMA 5-15) home network. This is great as I can choose 10 or 12A when I'm visiting friends who have a handy outlet outside their garage or when I'm at work and have access to a 20A (NEMA 5-20) outlet and 16A can choose. I have a 220V 20A outlet in my garage (I also had to make an adapter for a NEMA 6-20 outlet) but you can only select 12, 16, 24 or 32A. 10A doesn't seem like an option on 220V, unlike a 110V outlet. To change the amperage you first need to plug it into the wall and then use the card provided or touch the area above of the box. At 110V I can choose 10, 12, 16, 24 or 32A, when I connect it to a 220V socket I can only choose 12, 16, 24 or 32A. Then plug it into the car and the car only sees the power supplied by the EVSE/charger. My car is a PHEV only, not fully electric, so can only draw up to 14.4A as shown on screen when set to 16A. If I choose a lower amperage of 110 or 220 the car charge time will change accordingly. I plug in almost every outlet I come across and adjust the amperage accordingly so I don't have to tell the machine what each outlet is capable of.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • There are flaws
