Review on Enhance Your Edge with Kuromaku Ceramic Whetstone - Medium Grit for Superior Sharpening by Mohmed Burt

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great stone, good price, no soaking required, instructions in Japanese only

This sharpening stone looks very well made. This is a medium sized stone and was recommended to me as an excellent medium quality stone; an upgrade of the very popular King 1000/6000 Budget Stone. If you're just looking to buy an inexpensive squirt and upgrade to a sharpening stone, the Ha no Kuromaku (Shapton) 1000 is a great buy. 1000 grit is an all round grit for general sharpening, 100-200 for larger repairs, 200-500 for fine repairs and 5000+ for polishing very hard steel knives or razors. stone and does not appear to have shed much. The stone is very easy to use, no need to soak. Just spray with water and get to work. It is very convenient that you don't have to soak and wait. The case feels comfortable. The case can also act as a holder while sharpening and has rubber feet to prevent slipping. I would still put this on a towel or anti slip mat because the water would still mix in. Tip: If you're just sharpening the clean side you can leave the wording intact and always read what stone it is, but Shapton marks stones there and orange for a medium 1000 grit stone. I'd also like a lap or leveling preserved stone for future use. All whetstones wear unevenly over time and become concave (sunk in the middle) after many uses. When this happens, it becomes very difficult to properly sharpen them. Fortunately, this stone is very hard and not easy to break. The Atoma 400 diamond blade works well for leveling 500+ grit rocks and can also serve as a rough backing pad for knife repairs.
