Review on πŸ”¨ Enhanced Wheel Marking Gauge Kit: 2 Extra Cutters, Roll Stop Head, Micro Adjuster, Metric Imperial Ruler & 7'' Brass Marker Tool - Woodworking Must-have by Jason Cox

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good design, fine workmanship.

Overall, the caliber seems solid and well made and also technically high quality, unfortunately some manufacturing tolerances are too large: 1. Too much play in the counter-threads of the micro-adjustment mechanism, so there is a play of approx. 0.3 mm, what makes the micro-adjustment not very reliable (it's too easy to introduce an error by simply turning the clamp screw)2. . There is too much play between the slide bar and the brass halves of the handle (that's where a plastic spacer about 0.2mm thick and 5mm wide is placed). As a result, the meter appears flimsy and the reliability of its standard installation suffers - again, it's too easy to make a mistake by simply turning the turnbuckle.3. Too much clearance between the mating threads of the metal screws and the brass halves of the handle. This increases the general fragility and susceptibility to errors. I eliminated the play in 1 and 2 by unscrewing the micro-adjust assembly and inserting small washers made from a very thin plastic bottle between the stem and the brass parts (flexing the washers). up and cut to the right so they hook into the threads in the black adjustment nut to minimize play 2). The unfortunate result of this hack is that it has increased friction on the rod, preventing it from sinking under its own weight. to measure the material thickness even if all three screws on the gauge are loose. Their mileage may vary depending on the thickness and material of the seals used.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Very expensive
