Review on πŸ”© SPAX Stainless Steel Double Thread Fasteners: Enhancing Screw Performance with Precision by William Rothstein

BMW with Screws

In addition to the previous excellent review, I accidentally bought a small box of Spax screws a few years ago. When I got home and used them it was clear that they were a huge improvement over the cheap props I had used in the past. Two things set them apart: 1. They're made of decent metal that doesn't curl in half. The carving has small sawtooth edges that dig into the wood. Your local lumber yard will stock screws for stainless steel decking. They are so expensive that they are hidden where they cannot be stolen. When I saw that Revain had them and that it was a Prime item with free shipping (surprising for an item like this) it was the obvious choice for my small 100 sqft patio project. Thread sets to allow the top bar to fit snugly against the beams. I pre-drilled the boards so that wasn't a problem for me, but this feature works. The screws also have small protrusions under the head to help them sink. This function also works very well. A square drive is pretty much a requirement for high torque applications and the bit I had fitted the square well. There were no cracks, no crevices filled with dirt or anything like that. I used both a small Bosch impact tool and a heavy duty Milwaulkee drill bit with 1/2" cord and didn't break a single screw. The action of the impact tool is better because you don't have to press that the spax screws don't return exactly. They are the most expensive in the screw department and the obviously cheaper ones are fine for most projects. However, if your project is special or complex and you don't want to dig up stripped or broken screws, Spax makes sense.
