The long search is over

My search began when I received a late 2016 13-inch MacBook Pro and needed to connect it to a 30-inch Dell 4K monitor at work . I knew the monitor had DisplayPort so I went to my local Apple Store to find out. The red shirts there apparently didn't know there was such a thing as a "DisplayPort" connector and kept offering their Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. Thought I might give it a try since I used a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable to connect from my previous computer. What is not stated by the staff or the product packaging is that while the dongle makes the physical connection, the digital connection does not speak the same language, so I get a blank screen. Well, the monitor has DVI inputs, let's try this way. One channel doesn't support the monitor's native resolution of 3840 x 2160. After browsing cable boxes, I decided to order a dual-link DVI cable. I was never able to figure out if the USB-C->HDMI->DVI key sequence was the cause of the incompatibility, but from what I've learned about my new blank screen. Okay, I'll try HDMI. Which works if you want a 1080p picture. (4k displays don't flatter non-4k video sources) I've been looking for dongles and adapters for a long time and finally came across this product, exactly the product I was looking for in December. What exactly didn't matter, according to Apple employees. And in the product description, my hardware is explicitly listed as compatible. Yes, please! I plugged it in this morning and lo and behold it works as intended (assuming it's plugged directly into one of the ports on the left with no other devices in between). My MacBook can also drive a second display via HDMI -> DVI while retaining the full resolution of the built-in display. In short, this is the holy grail of USB-C cables and it definitely works as advertised for the MacBook Pro.
