Are you serious about overclocking?

After seeing my second YouTuber rave about the 52Pi Tower design, I decided to buy it. And the excitement is justified: this design will keep your SoC remarkably cool. that cool How about low 40s when Sysbench is maxing out all 4 CPU cores? I have argued about deducting a star for the cost but let's face it this is a luxury item and you get what you pay for. It's true that you can keep your Raspberry Pi 4 reasonably cool during normal use with a regular 20mm radiator and a heat-dissipating baby fan. But if you're overclocking or otherwise stressing your Pi, the Tower gives you peace of mind. In addition, it looks stylish. One caveat: Like most high-performance cooling systems, this device blocks access to the J2 pinout after installation. What is that you ask? J2 is your access to the reset (pin 1, GLOBAL_EN) and system shutdown (pin 3, RUN) line. Pin 2 is ground and you activate a reset or shutdown by connecting pin 1 or pin 3 to ground. If you're debugging a complex project or find that your Pi 4 freezes occasionally, factory resets are happening more often than you'd like. And there's just no clearance to install the J2 access pins, as you'll find if you compare the tower mount to the height of the GPIO pins. So if you need a reset button, solder some wires to the J2 holes on the board beforehand.

Pros
  • Enjoyable
Cons
  • Mostly good, but...
