Carbon steel blade, not as good as stainless steel blade

I have used this swiss knife for over 20 years and have always loved it. It effortlessly peels carrots and potatoes and glides smoothly and easily over vegetables. When my peeler was accidentally thrown away with the peel, I was heartbroken. So I ordered this one thinking it was identical to what I was used to. It's not like this. My old one had a stainless steel blade and this one has a carbon steel blade. Everything else was identical. As soon as I started using it I felt a little difference. It just didn't slip as easily and there was little resistance when peeling, so more pressure was required to get the same result. Unfortunately, Revain does not list Swiss knives with stainless steel blades, only carbon steel blades. I stumbled upon eBay by accident and found a few listings for Star knives with stainless steel blades. So I ordered another one off eBay for $6. When it arrived I took the carrots and peeled them with both peelers. The difference was obvious. The stainless steel blade glided easily over the carrot while the carbon steel blade had little resistance. My conclusion is that there is a difference between the blades, not huge but noticeable. If you've never had this before, then a carbon steel blade will work just fine, but you'll need a little more pressure to get the same result, and you'll probably tire of peeling lots of potatoes sooner than you would with a stainless steel blade. Blade. Also, carbon steel tends to rust if not properly dried or placed in the dishwasher. If a stainless steel blade isn't listed, then it most likely has a carbon steel blade (this information is often omitted from the list because they don't really want you to know). I recommend buying one off eBay with a stainless steel blade.
