I almost didn't buy this because of the bad reviews I read but as I was desperate for a new fender I went for it. Now after using it for almost a month I have to wonder if those who gave the bad review were really using a brand new Waste King disposer or one that was already installed in their homes and the backsplash is old and worn out. My reason is that if they did, they would understand that a "tight" fit and "food won't get through easily" is how the original guard fits and works, and that's what you get want! I replaced my old waste chute with a Waste King 8000 over 5 years ago. Recently I noticed that sometimes I was doing a disposal and my guard would pop out and splash ugly clumpy water everywhere! Once he fell while recycling! Such a tight tight fit, yes it's perfect! Secondly, objects also began to fall through the old fender. Have you ever cut up a spoon or cleaned a pane of glass because they came into your possession and you didn't see them? I have! And I would like to say that after replacing this new protection, my cutlery and glasses do not slip! So yes, sometimes thicker, larger pieces of food need a little help getting through, but then again, that's how the original works, and it's worth knowing that what shouldn't go through the guard won't accidentally get shredded. . It's not like the whole purpose of guards is to "guard" at all. I give this unit 5 stars because it works just like the original that came with it when we bought it years ago.
