I have never terminated wires with these connectors and my experience of using them out of the box has been fantastic. I plugged in my first few crimps while figuring out how to register fittings in a crimping machine. Once I figured that out, the system worked flawlessly. The crimping tool is characterized by performing a 2-stage crimp on fittings. I call it 2-stage because one set of flanges grips the insulation and the other grips the conductor. From what I can gather from the instructions, this system works with 18-26 GA wire with a maximum insulation diameter of 2.5mm. I crimped the 22ga cable. The black connectors are similar to those you see when connecting PC audio cables to a set of 2x8 (6?) pins on a PC motherboard. You can put plugs in one black housing and sockets in another black housing. The black plugs are plugged in with a friction fit. White plugs only support crimping for socket terminations. The connector requires a solder joint. They are connected with the click of a small latch that you can see in the photo. These things are really small. My fingers felt like sausages as I manipulated the compression fittings to register them in the compression tool. I have used OptiVisor many times. With this set you can spend very fine work.
