After reading reviews of many cable reels I chose these and am very impressed with their quality and functionality. The 14 gauge wire size means it can handle new higher amperage blowers that have burned a used 16 gauge HD unit after the first use. He literally melted the wire and did it without turning off the built-in circuit breaker. I have full confidence in this unit permanently installed outdoors in all weathers where most comparable units are for indoor use only. The retractable cord works great, winding up at a comfortable, steady, slow pace, or just stopping and temporarily locking at almost any point you want. I don't currently need two Alexa-enabled Wi-Fi outlets, but one day they might come in handy for a street-lit Christmas tree or other remote-controlled outdoor needs. It's definitely pricier than many of the other cheaper 50-inch options, but much better quality than anything I've seen. For those who find it difficult to install cable spools that don't have a removable bracket, simply take a small piece of cardboard from the box and place the bracket on top, then carefully mark the mounting holes with a marker. Then, using this piece as a template, line it up where you want it on the wall and drill two pilot holes in the cardboard. Simply insert the mounting screws into the pilot holes, leaving them slightly less than tight, and then the mount slides easily over the screw heads. Then, if necessary, tighten the two mounting screws with a small wrench. It stays securely in place and swivels back and forth in any direction, giving you access to almost anything within 50 feet from either side. While it doesn't swivel 180 degrees, it swivels enough to keep it out of the way when not in use, and swivels easily far enough for the cable to be used in just about any direction. After testing to the limit in both directions, I found it easier to pull the cord all the way out with the red warning tape before use so you don't have to constantly pull at corners or obstacles. This makes it easier and quicker to use to maximum length and retracting once complete is easy, quick and very smooth. I would definitely buy this device again and can only recommend it. It might cost a little more than some, but it's still cheaper than buying a smaller device first and upgrading later. At least it won't start a fire like cheaper devices with smaller wire gauges and defective circuit breakers. When an extension cord gets hot it's overloading and very dangerous, so I wouldn't buy a cord reel with less than 14 gauge wire, and if more than 50 feet is required I'd increase that wire to 12 gauge, to for what to be sure - or lower . High-powered lighting or small, low-powered tool.
