First off, I wanted to know how it felt, so I put it to my throat, set it to the highest setting and made a barking noise. It starts with beeps which is great for the dog to get an alert first. Then it vibrates. I was pleased to learn that even the highest vibration felt like a vibrating cell phone held around my neck. never mind Oddly enough, however, he was so embarrassed when we put it on our dog that he stopped barking. Genius! It was so funny when we first used it. Our dog barked the entire time during the first few beep sessions, but once the vibrations kicked in, she turned her head around and tried to look at her neck in utter confusion. I wish someone could come up with an audio proximal version so you don't have to deal with neck prongs, although they are very round and blunt rather than sharp. My friend who recommended this to me told me that she now leaves the collar very loose and flappy for her dog. The fact that she's on him makes him think she's activating.
