For reading voltage and current on a variable DC power supply (test bench). Since the power is variable, I powered the meter from a 12VDC voltage regulator module. Strangely, when an application causes an inductive spike, the meter goes off. Then after shutdown and restart everything is fine again. I can try to put surge protectors (zener diodes) on the meter's power supply. I checked the voltage reading on a calibrated meter and it's usually within 0.1-0.2 volts of the actual voltage.
