Review on πŸ”§ Eazypower 30199 4 Inch Adapter 8 Inch 24: The Ultimate Tool to Enhance Your Efficiency by Brian Davis

Great idea, poor execution

Unfortunately I can't recommend this to make this product work and this makes up for it Unacceptable to the modifications I had to make, it worked almost exactly as described. Here's the problem and solutions for those of you who think you can make an effort and want to save some money. The purpose of the adapter is to allow the use of a standard 3/8" chuck on a power tool fitted with a 1/4" hex shank output, which is common on a growing number of handheld power tools, including drills and impact wrenches , pretty standard is wrench. The 3/8" quick change chuck allows you to use any size drill or tool, not just those with 1/4" hex shank. The adapter is made of mild steel and has a 1/4" hex shank on one end with a keyway to hold it in place when inserted into a 1/4" hex chuck. The other end of the adapter is drilled and tapped externally with 3/ 8"-28 threads per inch externally and internally for the included left-hand thread set screw. (In the photo of the adapter) on the Revain product page, the hex shank is at the top and the 3/8" thread and left hand set screw are shown below.) In practice, however, the actual tool is as follows. It had to be significantly modified before it could be used for its intended purpose. Here is the list and the fixes: 1) The locking groove (pictured on the top of the shank) is too far from the shank end causing the adapter not to snap into a 1 4" hex driver on most tools. Correction: Rotate the adapter and grind about 1/4" down from the end of the shaft near the keyway; Then bevel that end at a 45 degree angle to keep the adapter from dangling. 2) The head of the set screw was too big to fit in the open jaws of my Jacobs 3/8" chuck. Solution: Insert the screw into my other cordless drill and spin it against the grinding wheel to remove about 3/32" OD of the screw head, then again grind a small chamfer on the screw head 3) The shank on the stop screw was too large to fit through my Jacobs 3/8" chuck hole, although the screw that came with the drill bit itself went through just fine. (In other words, the left stop screw that came with the adapter is larger than it should be). The solution: Drill or ream the hole in the Jacobs chuck to 1/4". 4) The set screw's left-hand cut threads (bottom photo) are so shallow and insufficiently deep that it seems likely that the threads will break off completely with prolonged use and there is no way to lock the cartridge on the adapter during reverse rotation. it is a drill or a tool. this is beyond repair; the hole was made easy oh too big drilled and can not be repaired. 5) The use of mild steel rather than high carbon tool steel or chrome combined with very poor machining means this adapter will not last as long as a properly manufactured one. . There is no solution. However, after the adapter was modified in this way, it worked perfectly. However, for those of you who want a 3/8" chuck for use with 1/4" shank tools, I highly recommend purchasing one of the complete sets from DeWalt or one of the other 'brands'. Manufacturer to avoid the work and possible disappointment of this tool.
