I was able to flare the pipe I was working with although the clamp allows it to slide down a bit. Putting the clamp in a vise gives better control, but I'm still trying to figure out how to hold the pipe securely so the pipe stays in place when you tighten the flared flange. This seems to be the main problem with most of these flare kits. It's probably a good idea to work with a vice from the start. Otherwise you must be willing to practice and sacrifice the whistle as you will have to cut off the part you messed up. Exercise is probably a good idea anyway.
