Review on ๐Ÿ Enhanced Yellow Jacket 60295 Flaring Tool: Eccentric Cone, 45 Degree, 3/16 to 3/4 Inches by David Robinson

Expensive but good quality

Had to cut and flare the refrigerant lines on my new Mini AC Split unit using R410a refrigerant. The device works at relatively high pressure, so I had to make sure I was making good flares. I decided not to use my old cheap flare tool as it was a one time thing and I needed to get it right. But I didn't want to pay the air conditioner guy a lot of money either. I practiced on scraps of 1/4" and 3/8" copper tubing until I got pretty good at incorporating the required 1-1.5mm draw length. After a while I got pretty good at it. It seemed that using Nylog helped lubricate the working end of the eccentric cone and use a slow and smooth motion. I also cut the tubes very carefully without putting too much pressure on the cutting tool and carefully deburred the ends. I have found that all flares tend to have a slightly rough edge around the outer perimeter of the flare. I carefully and carefully smoothed this spot with a findstone and cleaned everything with alcohol after I was done. For final assembly, I used Rectorseal Sealtite Accessory Seals, which have a Locktite Vibratite finish, not your typical Nylog sealant.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Nothing
