The Kestrel 5000 is an excellent anemometer for long range shooters. I bought one of these to help me with long distance PRS matches. Not only was it useful for measuring wind speed and learning how to guess wind speed, but the altitude density function is what I chose it for. Some Kestrel models allow you to search and enter environmental parameters such as temperature, barometer, humidity, etc. The density altitude takes all of these factors into account and gives you an equivalent altitude. I have created dropdown maps for different density heights and only get one reading and use that for my matches. I can get shooting information much quicker than the guys who are still trying to find different numbers and put them in a ballistics program.
