Failure mechanism (button needs to be pressed too hard) I've found with all my well maintained remotes that I have oily deposits on the conductive rubber pads that contacting the printed circuit board (PCB), and oil deposits on the corresponding pads on the printed circuit board. I don't know if this is due to skin oils getting into the rubber or more likely oils leaving the rubber as it ages. In any case, whatever the cause of this oil spill, once it starts, it will not stop. Because of this I expected that the conductive coating created on rubber gaskets with this product would not be permanent as oils leaving the rubber could cause the rubber to lose its bond. Of course I found that problematic. The cover loses contact within a few weeks. Simply cleaning the oil from the conductive carbon rubber pads and PCB contact surfaces with 90% or more isopropyl alcohol (IPA), which can be found cheaply at any drug store, will virtually eliminate the button contact problem for a much longer period of time than cleaning them and then using this Product.
