I've tried many different NVRs and this one is by far the best value. It lacks some of Hikvision's high-end features, but at a fraction of the cost. I have found this to be the best NVR for the money if you use it for personal use and not for large businesses. Initially, I had some trouble sending events via email. After a long phone call with Amcrest, a tech support representative informed me that their devices currently only work with Yahoo email accounts. Set up email address and it worked great. Since you don't want to use your real email, I don't see this as a downside. The interface is nice and very simple. There aren't many "extra or advanced" features that can be confusing. I found that you can't set your own HTTP port if you want to use the web interface. It only seems to work on ports 80.8080 and 1500. If you set it to something else, you'll be able to sign in with apps, but the web interface will be broken. I chose 1500 and another external port. It worked well. It's a much smaller form factor than I'm used to, it only supports one drive. If it's a deal breaker, look elsewhere. Otherwise just get a bigger drive. Configuration: I've found that using events and masking doesn't really work. Even though I set a specific range of motion, it detects motion outside of that range and sends me an email. I've tried and will continue to play with sensitivity where I can find that middle ground. If I had only one complaint about this device, it would be this one. The event notifications are nice, similar to my Hikvisions, they send an email with one snap instead of three. That's fine as it gives me a time and camera view so I can follow the event through the app. I have verified that the Catalina app works for Android, iOS, Windows and Mac OSX. I wish I could say the same about my Hikvisions, but I can't. +1 for Amcrest! I have several different ONVIF camera vendors and none of them are Amcrest. They all work fine. I'm only having issues with two cameras that are set to H.265 in the camera but show up as H.264H in the NVR. Both cameras are from the same vendor, so I think it could either be a compatibility issue or the cameras are actually incompatible with H.265. Both are PTZ so it might have something to do with that. I also can't set events with any of these PTZ cameras. I haven't been able to get a direct response from Amcrest, is this normal or is it a problem with my camera. For now I won't be pushing it as everything else is working great and I'm very happy with it. If only they made a good 32 channel hybrid DVR I would switch my Hikvisions in a heartbeat. You will definitely love this DVR for its ease of use!
