Review on Sony DVP SR200P DVD Player Black by Robert Grind

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great little DVD player that does what it's supposed to.

So I bought 3 of these DVD players, one for my father in law, one for my mother and a third one for me. Everything worked great with no problems. Initially, my father-in-law needed a new DVD player as it wouldn't accept burned DVDs, and that suited him. Menu navigation and the remote control were easy for him to use and he didn't need any help to connect them to the TV. Then my mother's DVD player broke (again). We discussed switching to Blu-Ray, but after looking at recent Blu-Ray player reviews, we decided against it. She's getting older and, as she has said, she may not even be alive if the transition is complete anyway. Eventually I wanted to upgrade to Blu Ray. Bought it, tried it, didn't like it. We then bought a Playstation 3 but after returning 3 of them we decided the Blu-Ray still had too many uncorrected errors to invest in one at this point. Perhaps the situation will improve in the next few years, but not now. Also, wireless technology is the main thing most people buy a Blu-ray player for. But really, if I wanted to stream Netflix movies, I would have an account. I currently sell Blu-rays and DVDs on various websites so I see more than enough DVDs without the need for an upgrade. So until companies don't phase out DVD technology completely (which they probably will), I have no intention of buying a Blu-ray player again. Either way, this DVD player performs better than any Blu-ray player I've tested.

Pros
  • Excellent price

A DVD player by any other name is... a great CD player!
