Also play hard-to-play DVDs

I've been going through a lot of scratched DVDs from the public library and my old player often got stuck on them. Very unpleasant! This Sony player can reproduce them MUCH BETTER. So far no problems. Also, I have several DVD-R or DVD+R copies of home movies made by my computer and this player has no problem with them. My old player often had problems with it. (Maybe cheap DVD players will play it, too. I don't know.) I'm deducting a star because it's a pretty basic player. There are certainly…

Good basic no-frills DVR

Easy to install. Because it's small, it doesn't dominate my TV cabinet. In addition, he is quiet. The only claim to the remote control; too many buttons, many of which are for a TV I don't have. There are actually 40 buttons, and since I don't need to address DVD titles by number, these 9 main buttons work well: Power, Eject/Load, Play, Pause, Stop, Next Track, Previous Track, Fast Forward and Faster if necessary return. When Sony realizes that someone is buying a DVD player, that doesn't mean…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Power outlet required

***½ The Sony DVPSR200P is a good DVD player that is missing a few buttons, lacks impressive menus and is slow spinning connects/connects/loads, although it outperforms the competition, especially in the ability to fast/slow forward/rewind. On the RMT-D197A remote, the buttons are well spaced considering the normal finger thickness of the average US or European man. Despite its small size, the 8-digit display shows the time (hours:minutes:seconds) of the title or chapter already viewed or…

Great little DVD player that does what it's supposed to.

So I bought 3 of these DVD players, one for my father in law, one for my mother and a third one for me. Everything worked great with no problems. Initially, my father-in-law needed a new DVD player as it wouldn't accept burned DVDs, and that suited him. Menu navigation and the remote control were easy for him to use and he didn't need any help to connect them to the TV. Then my mother's DVD player broke (again). We discussed switching to Blu-Ray, but after looking at recent Blu-Ray player…

Bought ONLY to play music CDs

Component music CD players for stereo systems range in price from $99 to several hundred dollars each. Since this player is advertised as compatible with music CDs, I thought it would be a less expensive alternative, and it was. The first model I received was locked and stuck playing discs, so I contacted Revain and arranged an exchange for another. The exchange process was smooth and painless. Revain paid for the shipping and immediately sent me a replacement that works great. This player is…

Nice little player at a very good price

Updated 7/23/13. I am changing my rating from 4 stars to 2 stars because this DVD player has stopped working. It would just stop loading discs even after cleaning them and the player's heads. It took many attempts to even open the drawer. I've tried rebooting, resetting and all the usual remedies to no avail. After all, getting him to do anything was impossible. Trying to fix it will cost more than replacing it so I bought a Samsung DVD-E360 (black) DVD player which is a similar base unit which
