Review on Sony DVP SR200P DVD Player Black by Terry Kohl

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Ergonomic remote but missing buttons and menus and volume controls don't work

***½ The Sony DVPSR200P is a good DVD player that is missing a few buttons, lacks impressive menus and is slow spinning connects/connects/loads, although it outperforms the competition, especially in the ability to fast/slow forward/rewind. On the RMT-D197A remote, the buttons are well spaced considering the normal finger thickness of the average US or European man. Despite its small size, the 8-digit display shows the time (hours:minutes:seconds) of the title or chapter already viewed or remaining. Unfortunately, these times cannot be permanently displayed separately on the corner of the screen, but only for a moment or as part of a large menu that takes up almost the entire screen. The remote control is ergonomic, but its direct functions are inferior to those of the remote control. Toshiba SD7300 and volume button not working. It lacks a zoom button, which is only accessible via the second tier OSD menu. The two-level menu is clearly inferior to the Toshiba menu. However, it automatically (without user involvement) remembers the viewing endpoint not only on the disk after a pause/stop, but also on the last 6 remote disks. Also, the motor stops after a pause and doesn't wear out with continuous rotation, like the cheap Toshiba SD4300, which also doesn't remember the viewing location 20 minutes after stopping the disc.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Has flaws
