Review on Sony SSCS5 3-Way 3-Driver Bookshelf Speaker System (Pair) - Dynamic Sound and Sleek Black Design by Tanya White

Read if you must, but buy if you trust.

I'll start by saying that I have a lot of experience with loudspeakers of all kinds and quite a bit about loudspeakers and how sound works. And with most speakers, even $300+ sets, there are a few common issues that usually put me off as a listener. Speakers in a box and sounds like another mismatched speaker placed on top of your much better mid/low range speakers. The tweeters are overbearing and sound "pale" or metallic. Including dust protection plate. The bass is strong but lacks the right tone. The bass is weak, but shows unacceptable deviations. Bass has good tone but is overly dependent on the addition of a subwoofer or passive resonant speakers resulting in an overall reduction in bass/mid quality. Sound suffers greatly when not in its absolute optimal position, limiting placement or quality. lots of general issues, and even with good reviews and a lot of research, I expected to hear at least one of them. However, I am happy to say that I am amazed at how well these speakers handle all of these issues. Whether near or far, with a subwoofer, without, correctly or incorrectly placed, with other speakers or alone, these two mini monsters completely eliminate all these problems and sound damn good at the same time. I'm very picky when it comes to audio, and I'd easily say that to consider an upgrade big enough to be worth it, I should be willing to shell out $600 for everything. I connected them to an Integra preamp and turned them on. with a Crown 1000 amp in a very large room (probably 35 feet by 30 feet). On the surface I think 6 ohms is perfect for home theater speakers of this size, especially front speakers, but it goes beyond a few good choices. They clearly had ALL good design options. So if your amp can handle 6 ohms I highly recommend them. I'd also like to add that the volume and atmospheric resonance in them are comparable to 8 ohm 350 watt speakers, so 100 watts is something my electric bill will happily accept. They barely sweat, produce loud, high-quality and detailed sound, and this time I'm not worried that a heavy excursion could tear them apart. I will be using them for house party music as well as movies and games and so far I have tested them on all three and have not been disappointed. I personally wouldn't recommend them as side speakers as they get in the way TOO much. I think side and back are completely different ball games. That being said, you can definitely order 6 of these and use them as front, rear and surround back speakers; You just need to calibrate their volume and aim them correctly. All in all, I'm proud to own them and even prouder to tell people how much I spent on them. They're not just good for how good they are, they're good in general. Unless you're willing to splurge, there's little to no difference between these and other high-end speakers, and I personally recommend buying these speakers if your setup calls for bookshelf-sized speakers. Final verdict: 8.5/10 for sound quality if we completely ignore the price and consider 10 the best sound imaginable. He's not the pickiest son of a bitch in the world and only wants what 98% of the world's population would consider perfect sound.
