Best Cat Mat (Read the review to find out how to lay it flat)

PRO TIP: The mat comes folded and many people complain that it's difficult to lay out again. The company even sends out a little flyer asking them to put something heavy on the mat for FOUR DAYS to help it straighten out. Forget it! Just throw it in the hottest water bath you have and then dry it off. My rug was perfectly flat and was at its final resting place within 30 minutes of receipt. The main reason we bought this mat is because our elderly cat started to urinate outside the toilet. The great thing about this mat's two-layer design is that you can put a puppy pad inside to catch the urine. It deters cats from stepping on it and my younger cat, who tends to viciously dig into anything near the litter box, doesn't damage the pad or leave a urine smell on his paws. It is great! As a bonus, it also catches dirt far better than any other blanket we've had. It's just a design that makes sense. Since we got it, I've had to sweep it a lot less often. It's very easy to clean, which I do quite often because again it's urinating every day. I just toss it in a tub of hot water and dish soap, then wipe it dry inside and out with a large rag. The foam itself is not only water repellent but also appears to be actively hydrophobic, water collects on it so it dries very easily. The PU leather on the edge doesn't dry that easily, it seems to retain some water. Whether this is because the material absorbs it itself or because it traps water in the seam, no idea. I usually just press the edges with a rag and put it slightly damp, it dries by itself pretty quickly. Longevity I would call very good, although maybe not quite enough for my purposes. The younger cat I mentioned earlier REALLY loves to dig. He is chronically constipated and whenever he has trouble potty training he likes to dig to vent his frustration and he is very, very pushy. I would say this rug is strong enough for most people. For us it showed very little damage after just a couple of weeks. We'll probably need to get a new one every six months or so, and we will because it's still the best option.
