Review on πŸ”’ CR Brophy Machine Works Heavy Duty Tie Down with HSSF Brophy Black Finish by Sean Sheppard

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Overall a good product and the price is good. HEAVY, with a manufacturing defect. Fits light RV or highway only

These things are HEAVY - they weigh over 20 pounds. The postman didn't pick it up from the truck, just left a note telling me to come to the post office to pick it up myself. They seem to be fine. I do have one small complaint - the hole for attaching the turnbuckle is a little off center on all of them. I don't think that's the design intent, but it doesn't seem to weaken it. It's just annoying that a product made in the USA should have such a defect. Well, I also have an AMC Jeep, so I think this product isn't that bad. It's not entirely clear to me why the clamp screw is a thin (though thick) rectangle. I would make a disc out of this - I think that's the only part that can dent or dent the frame under significant stress. But so far my camper is fine. UPDATE: I sold a previous camper that weighed less than 800 pounds (4 wheel RV, Hawk, 6.5ft long) and bought an 8ft Alaskan alcove for 1600 pounds. I used these mounting clips to take a large camper on a 3 day 2400 mile trip (home after purchase). The clamps are pretty compact so I took them with me on the truck in case I bought an RV from home. Even though it's only highway miles, the mounting brackets worked great. The camper didn't move an inch with the tailgate down. I wouldn't trust a further ride with the rear pegs due to the steep incline of the rear pegs (see photo), but they kept the camper from sliding backwards. In the future I will be using the rear flare loader mounts for better vertical security at the stern, but I will continue to use the front mounts as the angle (about 45 degrees) is appropriate for that position. A: The clips only left a small scratch (the size of a pencil diameter) on the inside of the bed because I was missing a corner of the lining that didn't cover the stain. If I had bed linen spray it wouldn't even show up.
