Review on Dakota Alert MURS Detection Kit by Durioki Cordaro

Mine is installed on the electric gate at the entrance to my property so I get a notification if someone drives up to the remote on the gate. The distance from the transmitter to the base receiver is just over 700 feet over relatively flat terrain with lots of trees in between. I placed the base station in the middle of the house so we could hear it but it had a lot of interference so I put it in a window with more line of sight and the signal was much clearer. A major benefit for me is that this transmitter transmits on the MURS frequency, so if I and/or my wife are in an area off base, we can have a portable MURS device with us and be alerted that someone located at the gate. An added bonus is that the base station can also communicate with portable devices, so now we actually have three radios, making the system very convenient. Note that the claimed range of this device is "2 miles". If you can send and receive signals from hill to hill without obstacles, you'll probably get a range of 2 miles. However, if you add uneven ground, trees, buildings, etc. between two stations, your effective range will be greatly reduced. I'm just glad he got the 710 feet home! Before purchasing, I called Dakota and asked a few questions and their customer service rep was very helpful. I also learned that they offer a 30 day guarantee. So if you don't get the range you want, you can return it. Good to know!
