I bought the medium size for my 12 year old son. He had just grown to a size 14-16 when he was young so I went for a medium size in this sweatshirt. It's not a thick cotton sweatshirt, but it's not a regular long-sleeved sweatshirt either, more like a mix of the two. The medium length is perfect for him on the torso, but the arms are about 5 inches longer, but they have cuffs that stop at his wrists for them to stop unless he intentionally pulls down the sleeves. He's a little 12 year old and the environment is great for him and leaves room for growth. I wanted to be sure and figured he could grow into it if it didn't fit. my son loves this
