Review on LG UltraWide 34WK650 W: 31.5" 2560X1440P, 75Hz, Anti-Glare, Wall Mountable - Compatible with 32QN600-B HD by Mark Palmer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

HDR sucks on Windows 10, but this monitor has fantastic color at a great price.

I chose it to replace my old 1080p TN monitor with something bigger. After reading a bit I realized that 1440p is the best resolution for a 27 inch monitor, so I went with it. I mainly use it for gaming, so 75Hz + FreeSync was a big plus for me. Don't believe the 144Hz monitor hype, your average GPU will never be able to top 75 fps at 1440p anyway. For starters, the monitor looks fantastic. Color rendering is amazing, just make sure you use "Custom". Image adjustment mode to remove color temperature adjustments. Most preset picture modes either distort color too much or apply too much of a sharpening filter. Refresh rate to 75 Hz in Windows 10 and enable "Variable refresh rate" in graphics settings. It looks fantastic while gaming, with no sign of ghosting or input lag. When you enable HDR mode in Windows, you lose the ability to change the "custom" picture mode settings, leaving all your non-HDR applications with an ugly warm tint. You can still use other preset image modes, but the lack of fine tuning is annoying. After wrestling with it for a couple of days I decided it wasn't worth it and just turned HDR off because it wasn't worth the headache and didn't really seem to add much. After all, I can't give it. Overall rating 5/5 because the monitor has a few weaknesses. First, the stand looks pretty flimsy. Don't get me wrong, it holds the monitor up, but a monitor this size deserves more than skinny legs. Luckily, the VESA mount on this monitor is easy to use, so there's no need to use a stand if you don't want to. Second, the monitor's OSD requires some attention. For example, most standard shortcuts relate to volume control. but this monitor has no speakers. In addition to the previously mentioned HDR issues, the monitor appears to track separate settings for Normal mode, FreeSync mode, and HDR separately. If you ever adjust the contrast/brightness, you'll need to manually apply those changes to the FreeSync and HDR modes as well.

Pros
  • Multiple ports make it easy to connect to different devices
Cons
  • Non-intuitive menu system
