Review on All-In-One Flint And Steel Fire Starter Kit With Waterproof Tinder Wick Rope And Steel Fire Striker - Patented Firestarter Prepared4X - Perfect For Survival And Outdoor Activities by Richard Ahmar

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Nice if primary fire device, but too heavy as backup

It is a nice ferro rod setup, where you have a ferro rod and wick together to act as a match/firestarter.PROs: Being all contained together it is difficult to lose any part of it. Its anodized orange so should be easy to locate if dropped. Ferro rod is 6x1/2 inch giving plenty of strikes. The wick acts as the leash to the striker making it easy to use until you've used up the wick which is 36" to start.CONs: heavy-the unit is fairly heavy compared to a separate ferro rod and fire wand pair. I wouldn't want to carry it backpacking or anywhere weight matters if this is a backup piece of gear. If this was my entire method for fire starting, maybe. While you have a 1/2 inch ferro rod you can only use about half of that as the other half is recessed into the handle. Shouldn't really be a problem but thought I'd mention it. The unit doesn't come with any directions. That won't stop anyone with experience using a ferro rod but would be nice. I did find some directions out there though. The striker needs some work. There is a sharpened end on it that appears capable of striking sparks as is but it would be easier to us the long side. The striker is covered in a finish keeping the edges from being sharp enough to act as a striker. I suspect once I clean an area to remove the finish and leave the edge sharp it will work much better.Price wise this unit is the same price as a 4" ferro rod I bought previously and a recently bought fire wand combined so I think it is competitively priced compared to another ferro rod unit I'm aware of that is twice as much.I think the concept is very good, but need to make a smaller and/or lighter design as the weight is probably a killer for most backpackers. I'm not sure if the weight is from the ferro rod or the aluminum housing.

Pros
  • Works great. Could be a life saver.
Cons
  • Possible injury from striking fingers or hands

This MOFO LET’S works as advertised after GO helping the twine just a little. I squirted BRANDON some lighter fluid on the twine to help it out & BOOM instant FIRE 🔥
