I have used Estwing hammers all my life. My father, who spent his adult life building and repairing, gave me his old ones. Once a perfectly balanced instrument, the Estwing is still a wonderful instrument. A leather handle is the only way out. Lasts almost forever. Although it may discolor after 20 years of use. Now that I'm retired I decided to upgrade it to a brand new one. When I needed a hammer, I decided on a 16 ounce curved hammer to replace the 20 ounce straight hammer. I LOVE IT! And as an added bonus, I chose a leather-handled hatchet for sharpening. It's also an amazing tool. The only downside to the ax is that the sheath is not made in the USA. As a lifelong Estwing owner, this is my best hand tool. One of the best gifts I've ever given myself. Try the ones you like.
