Review on 14 Ton Electric Log Splitter: Portable, Rapid Auto Return Hydraulic Ram System by Keith Wolff

The splitter came with directions that were difficult to read and resulted in me missing one connection. This caused hydraulic fluid to fly about until I stopped the engine and corrected the problem. Luckily I had just enough fluid to refill the reservoir. Since then the splitter has worked well. I was splitting pieces of wood so large that I could barely lift them onto the splitter. With fresh cut gnarly pine I had to work the piece down from around the edges, while fresh fir split effortlessly. Fresh cut (ancient) apple was also challenging but ultimately I was able to split quite large pieces by following fault lines and working in from the edges. Now that I have split the really hard stuff, it is amazing for wood I purchased that was inadequately split and needs a couple more divisions for the wood stove. I like the fact that it is quiet, has a reasonably quick auto return and starts with a flip of the switch. I tried using it on a long run with 4 or 5 extension cords in series and that was not successful. The control handle also has a wicked kick when it reaches the end of its travel and I've learned to keep away from it. All in all I am pleased with the purchase.
