I write from time to time, but mainly for operating systems. If you're still using DVDs, it's in your best interest to buy and keep them. Shelf life is 10 to 20 years depending on how you store it and where you store it. They are definitely temperature sensitive. These DVD+Rs from Verbatim are some of the best, I've had very few issues with them, they're very reliable and even discs that tend to get rough (scratched) still work most of the time.
