Excellent integration with Nest

If you're looking for a humidifier that works with Nest, look no further. No need for a digital car version and no need to use the controller that comes with this controller - Nest does it all for you. There are several reviewers here who have written good reviews with schematics that involve using a third party relay. This is ABSOLUTELY NOT NECESSARY with the Nest Thermostat. My humidification system works fine when I use the Standalone Humidifier, 1-Wire diagram from the Nest Pro Installation Guide. Look on page 15 for these charts. The Nest "*" terminal that you connect one of the brown wires from the humidifier to is powered by 24V and can therefore operate the humidifier on its own - no relay needed! So the wiring is simple: one brown wire from the humidifier (it doesn't matter which one) goes to the socket terminal*, the other brown wire goes to the common ground terminal "C" on the oven control board. That's literally all, except plugging the device into an outlet. The only additional step you need to take is to enter the Nest Professional setup so you can 1: identify/confirm that the humidifier is being used on the terminal* and 2: set the humidifier to be either switched on with heat from the oven (connect cold/warm water) or switched on separately only by the oven fan (only hot water connection). I chose to hook up my 700m to hot water because I live in Colorado and water is expensive and heated water contributes to evaporation and the overall effectiveness of the humidifier. I'm also very happy, because while I'm working, a healthy stream of water flows into the sewers. I also recommend connecting to hot water so you can use the humidifier separate from your heat by simply using the stove fan. It takes some tweaking in the Nest Pro menu to switch to this configuration, but it's worth it. I didn't have much time to understand how the device actually increases humidity, but I turned it on with just the stove fan (no heat) and was able to increase the humidity in the house from 31% to 33% in about 20 minutes. I have a large ground floor, 3200 square feet. Feet combined, but the humidifier works only in the furnace on the first floor, and there is a separate air conditioner on the second floor. Another design comment: I would like Aprilaire to design a simple water regeneration collection system. to collect the water that didn't evaporate on the first pass through the filter and reuse it so we don't dump as much water down the drain. It seems like a very simple design element and well worth the cost savings for those of us who spend big on water.

Pros
  • BUILT-IN FAN draws heated air straight from the oven through the humidifier
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
