The ceramic biomedia is not exactly an interesting product. This is just one of the consumables you buy when you have an aquarium. However, as a service to other consumers, it's important to share your experiences with products, even less glamorous items like this Fluval C-Nodes biological filter media. I have Fluval C2 and C3 performance filters. C3 is still in the box and has not been opened. C2 has been operational since January 2014. It has proven to be very reliable and its performance is satisfactory. The consumables for the C2 model are filter pads, activated carbon bags, biomesh filters and ceramic biological material. Filter gaskets should be replaced monthly or more often depending on the aquarium. Coal can be replaced when exhausted. Some users don't mind carbon fiber. The filter works fine without it, although if you have driftwood in your tank, the water will turn yellow faster without the carbon. A small bioscreen is an additional element. This is a small fabric with holes that help circulate water through the fine filter module. The dropper contains a ceramic biocarrier that is the subject of this review. Usually you replace some of the media when they get clogged. The medium itself will not deteriorate, but slime will form over time. Usually the slime can be washed out, but at some point it is better to replace part of the medium. This is because the C Series models allow for a large water bypass. Water that seeps through the ceramic filter is not filtered. It can also happen that you treated a reservoir but forgot to take off your drip. The ceramic carrier is now contaminated with antibiotics at this point. In this case, I recommend replacing them after processing. One of the advantages of the Fluval C-Series models is the added benefit of a wet/dry drip chamber. In theory, this should aid in biofiltration since the media is above the waterline where it is exposed to air. More air means more bacteria. More bacteria means faster decomposition of organic waste and faster detoxification of ammonia. This can be helpful for those who overfill their tanks. C-nodes are ceramic media only. I suspect you can replace almost any media that will fit in a dropper box. C2 is a small filter. The filter box is small. Instead of using Hagen Aquaclear Biocarrier, which is easier to find locally, I ordered a material made specifically for the filter model. If you have the larger C3 and C4 models, the filter box is larger and you have more options. Highly recommended if you have a C2 model.
