Edit: Since many of the people viewing this list are also considering Nespresso, I've just added a comparison of Illy and Nespresso to the bottom of this review. makes a mess as the reviewer uses the machine incorrectly: when brewing, omit the capsule filter sleeve and it produces a great shot (and as in this product's list) perspective of the drawings in the quick start guide give the impression that the hand is in the middle, but this is just a poorly drawn illustration.) Pros: + Illy iPerespresso machines produce excellent quality espresso. Shot espresso with Iperespresso pods and make the best espresso shot out of *any* pod machine (Nespresso doesn't even remotely taste like real espresso) + uses extra physics. This process creates real crema (not machine-enhanced crema like Nespresso) + Also includes the ability to "drip" coffee with Illy iPer coffee pods + Programmable for longer or shorter shots + Super attractive machine + All-metal construction. Cons: - Iper Coffee Pods produce a decent cup of coffee, more comparable to a K-cup coffee maker than true drip coffee. reaches the desired amount of water, then release the switch. From now on, the button will produce a new amount of water unless you program it again Improved quality of recordings iPer Coffee——————-Comparison between Illy and Nespresso: First, let me say that I am a long-time Nespresso customer was, but recently switched to Illy iPerEspresso. iPerEspresso pods and FrancisFrancis machines produce much better espresso than Nespresso machines for several reasons. 1) more coffee per capsule: Illy capsules contain 7 grams of coffee, while Nespresso only uses 5 grams. which at first glance doesn't seem like a huge difference, but there's actually 40% more coffee per serving in Illy pods, which makes *a big difference in terms of serving quality, richness and taste2), less water per serving: Illy coffee machines are pre-programmed to 1oz and Nespresso machines to 1.35oz, so when combined with the different amount of coffee in each, Illy produces a much richer and more flavorful espresso. 3) illy, let's look at the physics the extraction process creates a natural crema, while the Nespresso system is designed to create an "enhanced" crema. The result is that the crema on Illy-Shots looks and tastes the same as an espresso from a regular coffee maker because it's *same* as on a regular coffee maker, while there is a noticeable difference in crema on a Nespresso. Shot. Conclusion: The espresso I get from this machine is far better than anything any Nespresso machine I've owned has ever produced.
