In fact it works exactly as advertised, the car works better, I didn't leave it long enough to know if the running helped but it certainly didn't hurt. I bought it to increase fuel economy, why did I take it off, K&N said they would add sound, they didn't say how much extra sound, it got a little bit louder. It was stated to be louder but it was too much for me. In fact, my wife said it sounded "stupid". i will sell it It was easy to install and easy to remove. By the way, the dealer I bought the car from knew I had it installed. He told me that if there was a problem with the engine I would have to remove it before taking it to the dealer as it would be under warranty. Labor, GM would not approve. He uses K&N products for his company cars. I have K&N products on two other cars and have used them on used cars, never had as much extra noise as on this little 2014 diesel Cruze. That won't stop me from buying K&N stuff in the future.
