The jug has several functions. First, at around 4 ounces, it actually holds less than my old version. Second, when pouring, sometimes the entire front of the top tilts toward the neck, causing massive leaks and splatters. When filling my coffee pot (which has its own Brita filter system, but I love my coffee and want water that's filtered twice) it's a mess. The lid you fill through almost shuts itself, but doesn't have to. The Filter Life system requires me to press it to check instead of telling me to add water every time the lid is inverted.
