These things slide. I'm starting to ride again after many years without riding and it's great. I would suggest going up rather than down if you are a half size. I didn't, but I can still wear them without chafing my toes. I would like to point out that I have a narrow foot and they fit snugly. I wouldn't try them if you have a wide foot. They are very stiff at the ankles but from what I remember you really want it. They work very well in our public park with concrete walkways. I rode it for an hour and didn't get any hot spots or friction blisters. The laces are tight and don't slip. I enjoy them even if I have to relearn how to fall.
