I've had my Forerunner for a year now. I love the article. First, it's great to know exactly how much I've run, no matter what road, trail, or bike path I'm running on. I'm no longer tied to my "measured distances". I can explore! Forerunner also shows your current pace. This is probably the second most useful feature it has. When I run, I can tell if I've RECENTLY speeded up or slowed down. This is way better than the average pace that sdm gives you. Think about it, when you're at mile 10 and you're accelerating 30 seconds per mile, your average pace doesn't change immediately. I find some of the other functions less useful but harmless. The display function on 101 is silly as the map is meant to be displayed on a 2 inch screen. She's just too small. A virtual trainer can be useful, but I never use it. The mile is automatically split and when set the backlight will turn on after each mile (for morning runs). Battery life is great. I use two regular Duracell batteries and run about 80 miles before changing batteries. The signal strength is ok. I've walked tree covered trails and overcast days with very few issues. I lost the signal once, but it was very dense with trees. It continued to track my distance, but I don't think it was 100% accurate on a weak signal. Also, I've never lost a signal. This product is just amazing and I can't explain how useful it is. Here's how I use it: my front door and leave for a minute or so. i have a signal I start a 6 mile run. i keep you warm p at about 9 min/mile and maintain that pace for the first mile. As I ponder my upcoming race, my watch beeps and lights up (it's now 5:10 am) and I see that I've run 9:08 miles. I increase the pace until I reach the 8 minute pace. I realize I ran the same distance earlier this week. I decide to turn around and walk down the new road for a change. Before I know it, my watch beeps, I look at the lit screen and see that my second mile was 7:58. It goes like this for a few kilometers. After about the fourth mile my thoughts start to wander. I look down and notice that I've slowed down during this time. I accelerate immediately and decide it's time to find my way home. The way home takes a little longer than expected, but I get there. I stop the watch and see that I actually ran 6.67 miles and found another good route. As soon as I'm inside, I can see my data. Distance, pace per mile, average pace, fastest pace, route and compare it to my previous runs! I see I've had another successful run and feel great! I hope my example shows how I use my Forerunner and why I like it.
