. There is a German Shorthaired Pointer whose claws grow like weeds. He runs and plays in the park.

I have a German hound whose claws are growing like weeds. He runs and plays in the park, but rarely walks on concrete or asphalt, so his nails don't wear out every day. My husband has a Dremel so I tried different whetstones. Everything wore off quickly and he couldn't file his black toenails. So I tried sandpaper on a rubber wheel - to my surprise, it works beautifully! His nails are growing fast; I usually have to hem them about every 10 days or they click on hardwood floors. A small strap will file its four paws once; I might be able to use it on one or two legs in my next grooming session, but I don't usually. It's wonderful value for money, high volume, and I could have another wheel ready with the extra mandrel that came with the sandpaper drums. Remember - this Dremel and the grinding wheel will get hot - it's important to make sure your pet's paws don't get hot while you're grinding off their claws. My dog doesn't mind the grinding or the sound of the dremel at all - he definitely doesn't like his toes getting hot from the friction of the grinding.
