This is the third plate warmer I have (they last a long time but eventually break). Unfortunately it's just too hot. Of course I paid for something to warm the plates, so it seems absurd to complain that they're warm, but the plate warmer is designed to do just that - warm the plates so they keep the food warm when it's served becomes. This is how my previous plate warmers worked. Perhaps the one I received is a little defective, but the plates get hot enough quickly that touching them with your bare hands for more than a second or two can cause a minor burn. So it heats plates, but it is unsafe and unsuitable for practical use in normal home cooking.
