Replaces your regular Costco kettle and is a great upgrade. I wanted to control the temperature for different types of tea and coffee but didn't feel the extra cost was worth the price. It can even hold the temperature for 10 minutes which is great as it gives me time to do some prep work without worrying about reheating the water. Sure, it was twice the price of a regular Costco kettle, but at $55 it was the most affordable precision-controlled kettle. Another thing I pay attention to is the lack of contact of plastic parts with heated water. I also purchased another piece of Ovalware (Cold Brew Pitcher) and really appreciate the overall quality of their products. Minimal plastic parts in contact with liquids. I don't use this kettle as a teapot, so I can't comment on its performance.
