We bought this for my wife to use as a stand for her laptop while using the exercise bike. The tripod itself is far less stable than several tripods I've used over the years of photography. Your laptop only weighs a few pounds, but I don't think this stand can support that. The platform is even thinner than the tripod. It's a lightweight plastic, although reinforced at the bottom. It won't sit straight unless the legs are adjusted. It has a slight inclination towards him. It's not a huge problem for my wife's intended use, but if you want to use it as a projector base you'll have to fiddle with it to align your projector. So the headline speaks for itself: Good idea, but poorly implemented. If my wife uses it for her laptop and even slams it, we'll be looking for a new laptop. It more than makes up for any savings we could have made by buying it over the more expensive but longer-lasting one.
