Review on SMC Pentax FA πŸ“· 50mm f/1.4: Exceptional Low-Light Photography Lens by Cornelius Mosley

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Star performers at an obscene price.

Now I have this lens, Pentax DA40/2.8 and FA50/1.4. This lens outperforms both for the types of shots I take often and I think for most images in general. around the lens. It will always be my go-to lens for really nice portraits, but this 35 outperforms it in all directions, focuses faster and has a much better focal length for DSLR crops. The 40th is a pleasure to use. and focus, and in itself an amazing piece of craftsmanship, but I've always felt like it doesn't quite do what I need it to. The size is only marginally smaller than this lens and the sharpness is comparable, but you lose a whole stop in speed. Although I enjoyed having and using it, the 35 has proven to be the best for me and I will be selling the 40mm soon. Everything fits together perfectly with this lens. The depth of field is quite large due to the long focal length - I hardly ever had pictures with a focusing problem associated with recording costs. The focal length also means slow shutter speeds are easier to hold out of your hand. The sharpness is incredible and the textures in the images really look three dimensional. To top it, you'd have to shell out close to $900 for a 31/1.8. I recently shot a wedding with this lens for the first time and got some shots I could only dream of with other lenses. It was the first wedding I photographed where I didn't have to keep looking for another lens. This is my new approach and I expect it will stay that way for a long time. Together with a 50/1.4 lens they form an excellent duo. Are there better lenses? Of course. For this price? Not even close.
