DISCLOSURE: The company inserted a solicitation with the product that it selected "customers like you" to share their experience. Then you submit your review with the enticement of them sending you a "free" multipurpose laser level. Their Disclaimer is "This promotion is at the manufacturers discretion". So I will follow-up with a post if I do receive the product or if they are only rewarding 5 star ratings. Also, if I had this knowledge earlier in reading the earlier ebay reviews I might have viewed them with more skepticism. The product has 4 detection modes so I felt it was reasonable to assign a rating star to each and the product's overall value to the fifth rating star. My previous stud finder was a Stanley that was several years old and so unreliable I trashed it so my standard of comparison is limited. So my ratings are based on this product's performance and my expectations. The house used with this evaluation has both wood and metal studs, PVC and Pex piping. Some rooms have textured surfaces and some wallpaper.Wood Stud Finder: One star as it seemed to work wellMetal Stud Finder: One star as it seemed to work wellDeep scan: One star as I was satisfied that it provided a benefitAC Detection: NO stars as I found it to be virtually worthless. I tried around outlet boxes, single, double and triple gang switch boxes without any success. It was only after I tried it around the 200 amp breaker box that I got the scanner to respond. I did try the instructions tips etc. but this feature just did not work for me.Overall value of the Scanner: One star as I think that it did a good job for the money. So my cumulative rating for the product is 4 stars. If I really needed a scanner that reliably did AC wiring I would not select it, otherwise I would not hesitate to purchase it for the other purposes.
