Very happy with CB and talkback radios

Can't say I've used a lot of these. I bought these for the kids as a Christmas present, but I've also bought them for the family for hiking, camping, and in case of an emergency. Bought 2 xtalkers 4 years ago to compare. I still have xtalker but they are clearly intended as a backup. The most important thing is the range. Gxt is far superior to them and I haven't tried to max it yet. So far, houses and trees haven't stopped gxt. The most impressive challenge was that my friends and I went camping. My mother was in town for Christmas. She's in her 80's and she's probably tired after a mile. She and I went back to my truck to wait for the others. Communication was never lost and reception was clear. Not sure how far they were but at least 2 miles with trees and hills. We are in Colorado. Was very impressed. Xtalkers struggled even though I could see who I was talking to. I only charged one radio and that was after I found it while the kids were using it and left it on. The Xtalkers were always dead because something in my backpack hit the power button at some point and I didn't know it until another signal came. Gxt has a knob at the top that you twist to turn it on. Gxt is bigger but that suits me. The earphone sucks. My eldest broke it right away but it was his fault. I don't like their fit. Basically, they don't want to stay in your ear. I'll probably order a diff type. I have a gmrs license but haven't played around with it yet. Xtalkers work with gxt as long as you have gxt on family channels. In general I am very happy with them. I will try HAM one day but this is great for my needs. They also have weather stations if needed.
