Review on Rust-Oleum Specialty Paint 1913830 Chalkboard Spray, Black, 11-Ounce, 11 Ounce by Tyrone Narvaez

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It's merely alright

I used this stuff to try and repurpose a spent dry erase board as a chalkboard. Here's the skinny:Pros: Not expensive, goes on nicely, was enough in the can to cover one of those giant dry erase boards (like 4 x 5" big).Cons: I painted a TV stand in spray-chalkboard paint a decade ago. Don't remember the stuff, but it had some grit to it and was great for writing on and wiping off. This stuff is thinner. It greys up, at best, if you use it right. Chalk is hard to erase. Leaves imprints you have to wash off.Ultimately, I don't know of a BETTER product, so it's 3 stars. But it isn't as good as a product I used to be able to get from a Wal-Mart 10 years ago. I'm sure the paint-on variety (with more substance to the paint) probably works loads better. All in all, this is a good craft paint, use it on simple stuff, don't expect miracles.

Pros
  • Covers up to 7 sq ft and dries to the touch in 20 minutes
Cons
  • It isn't scratch-resistant, making it prone to damage from frequent use
