My original sponge that came with my Hakko FX888D eventually disintegrated to the point that I needed a new one. I came across this sponge which I thought was the original Hakko sponge. When it arrived I noticed that the color was light gray compared to the original black sponge, but that didn't bother me. After using the sponge for a while, I noticed signs of corrosion on the top and bottom of my iron that looked almost like dried dirt. After disassembling the iron and polishing everything to a shine, I started my project again. This time, when I first wiped with a damp sponge, I noticed that there was a brown film left on the iron. It was a wet sponge (so wet that standing water comes to the surface when pressed) that melts and leaves a film all over the iron. The sponge is now in the trash.
