Removing the ticking is worth the price of this clock (not to mention the quantity 2!)

Assembly as described; NO ticking irritating. The case is made of plastic, so keep it away from warm or hot parts of the house. Just my caveat about warping plastic. Otherwise, I am very satisfied. If you are cost conscious and want to remove the sound of ticks from your room, this is a good choice.
