Review on Matfer Bourgeat Exoglass Pelton Slotted Spatula, Gray - Professional Fish Turner, Nonstick Pan Safe by Seth Gomez

Price vs. Durability

Like all comparison winners from America's Test Kitchen, the Matfer Bourgeat Exoglass Pelton Spatula has experienced grotesque price gouging. Despite the quirky-sounding "Exoglass" name and the "Made in France" label, there's something ATK never seems to mention: durability. The spatula is rated for temperatures no higher than 430 F. Is that reasonable? Most of the spatula is used in a pan where searing and frying are standard and temperatures are high. Everything ATK says about shape, angle and length is true. But after the second use, the thin edge of our new spatula was burned. We paid over $15 for a 5 cent piece of plastic. The plastic has already melted. Can anyone afford such a kitchen appliance?

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Hard to say
